Goshen Pass / Upper Maury RiverThe Maury River flows the entire length of Rockbridge County, VA, from Goshen to Glasgow.  Goshen Pass, between Goshen and Rockbridge Baths, is located approximately 16 miles northwest of Lexington, and can be reached by VA Route 39, a Scenic Byway that parallels the river.  The Pass was formed over millions of years by the river’s tenacious power. A deep gorge and thick forests give the area a dramatic and rugged beauty. You really have to see it for yourself! You’ll find a stunning overlook, a swinging bridge, hiking trails, rare plants, and a family-friendly picnic area. Goshen Pass is also home to some of Virginia’s most impressive whitewater, including two Class IV rapids, Corner Rapid and Devil’s Kitchen. This first stretch of whitewater can be a wild ride and is only suitable for highly experienced paddlers.

The 2-mile trail up to the Saddle (an old orchard) is relatively moderate, and the round trip (4 miles) takes about 2.5 hours. For an all-day challenge (8 miles round trip), follow the steep trails that split off from the Saddle to ascend the two peaks.
